Osterley Park
This National Trust estate has the magnificent Osterley house at its centre and 350 acres of parkland around it. The lakeside walks and trails are particularly beautiful this time of year, with the changing colours and scenic views. Join the Saturday parkrun or hire a bike to explore the grounds, where there are plenty of benches to sit and take a break or enjoy a flask of something warm.

Gunnersbury Park
Once the country estate of the Rothschild family, Gunnersbury now has a museum, a boating lake and open lawns perfect for a picnic. The walled garden is a quiet spot to explore once the crowds head for the playground, and the Georgian mansion at its heart is worth a look even from the outside. Visit this September for heritage open days and enjoy exclusive access to historic spaces and the estate’s history.

Kew Gardens
The Royal Botanic Gardens are an excellent place to visit all year round, but especially as the cooler months draw in. The Treetop Walkway towers 18 metres above ground, making it the perfect place to see Kew’s trees turning every shade of amber. On chilly or rainy days, travel to the depths of the rainforest inside The Palm House. Arrive early, wrap up, and allow at least half a day, as there's plenty of ground to cover.

Hanwell Zoo
A small, independent zoo tucked away in Brent Lodge Park, and a great option for a shorter outing with children. Home to meerkats, lemurs and flamingos, it sits alongside a play area and Millennium Maze, making it easy to enjoy a morning out.
